Feelin' a little shaky

Listen to this while reading:  Kids of 88 - Tucan

Shaky Isles.

Probably the best brunch cafe in the world.  Big call, I know.  But let me explain...
Shaky Isle's was an illusive little trickster cafe for a while for me.  I saw it as one of those awkward indie cafes, where people with skinny jeans, grandpa cardies and fake nerd glasses hung out.  They milled around the casual dining area with their skim flat whites and discussed last night's Florence and the Machine concert.  I avoided the cafe mainly in order to avoid these patrons.

However, one sunny Sunday morning, I caved into their allure of an outdoor table big enough to fit my family and I.  The menu is varied and all-encompassing of the standard breakfast ingredients, but somehow re-imagined in a delicious new way.  Their pikelets come with three different topping options - my favourite being the caramelised banana, bacon and maple syrup.  Their list of sides which you can add to your 'eggs any style' includes bacon, mushrooms, avocado, tomatoes, a potato & kumara hash cake, and their special brand of kransky sausage.

One can head more in the direction of a lunch meal with sandwiches and salads, the city branch offering a wide variety of cabinet food also for the busy professional.

Shaky's serves a range of differing Caffe L'affare coffee blends and strengths, and the milk is always perfectly frothed for whichever beverage you order.
